Annual Eye Health Exams

Childrens Eye Exams | Dry Eyes Treatment | Optomap (No Dilation Retinal Exam) | ValdostaYearly eye exams are important regardless of your age or health. As we know, preventive health care saves millions from stroke and heart attack each year. The idea is the same when you go to the eye doctor. Early detection of cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy is the best way to maintain a high quality of vision.

During a yearly eye exam, your doctor will examine more than just the need for glasses or contact lenses. All parts of the eye are evaluated to gauge risks for developing eye disease and vision loss. Did you know that the health of your eyes can be an indicator to your overall health? Your eyes are the only place the blood vessels can be directly viewed and often show the first signs of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.

Awareness and prevention are the keys to help save your vision. If you or someone you care about has not had an annual eye examination, NOW is the time. Our optometrists and staff are dedicated to helping you maintain and enhance your quality of vision. For your convenience you can visit the request an appointment tab at the top of the page to schedule an appointment and visit the patient portal to fill out the preliminary paperwork.

Children's Eye Exams

Childrens Eye Exams ValdostaChildren should have their eyes examined before they start pre-school. If there is a family history of eye disease or a noticeable problem, your child should be evaluated sooner. Our doctors can examine people off all ages, birth to adult.

Sadly, over 70% of school aged children have NOT had an eye exam. It is a proven fact that poor vision will negatively affect a child's schoolwork.

Annual eye exams play a critical role in detecting various eye diseases and vision problems that could dramatically impact a child's learning. Visual problems can be distracting and frustrating.

Common signs of a vision problems are:

  • Rubbing eyes often
  • Holding head at an angle
  • Squinting
  • Chronic eye infections
  • Sitting too close to the TV
  • Confusing similar words
  • Poor school performance
  • Writing crooked
  • Headaches
  • Daydreaming or lack of attention
  • Losing interest quickly

A screening performed by a school nurse or pediatrician should not be a substitute for a full eye exam. Some vision problems are not detected by a simple vision screening.

Of course, not all learning difficulties are a sign of a visual problem. Your child's vision needs should not go unattended. Unlike most medical problems, a child will not normally complain of visual problems because they do not know the difference. Our doctors and staff care about your child.
